Marina - not for commercial movie lovers

And after thinking much, whether to watch this movie or not (as all my friends who watched it gave a thumbs down), decided to give it a go. Thanks to Ashwin, my recent movie companion, who too decided to give it a go just for me.
The movie basically has no plot. The strong screenplay moves the movie forward. Marina is nothing but a pandora's box of small small stories knitted to each other. Each story does touch you. Director Pandiraj has done a good job. Unlike his previous movies, which had entertainment as its main focus, this movie goes beyond it. The life of kids selling sundal, water packets and coffee along the stretch of the beach is brought before our eyes.
Pandiraj, as he didnt have much of a plot, has devoted his time to building strong characters. Be it pakoda pandian (this boy needs a special mention later), the postmaster, the begger thaatha, the mentally challenged person or sivakarthikeyan-oviya, the backbone of each character is rigid.
Pakoda boy pandian, showed a matured level of acting, which was strong enough so that the story was able to revolve around him.
Sivakarthikeyan, comes as a sidekick track(dont get cheated by the posters). Funny 'love' one liners in his track are his plus. Bad that he didnt get much of a role. Oviya - could have acted better. we saw a better 'oviya' in kalavani.
The horse rider, postmaster, thaatha, and the man who sings, have done their roles well. Thaatha's story and acting does make your eyes cling with tears. And the mentally challenged guy never fails to make you laugh, every time he pops up on the screen.
Debutant music director 'Girishh' has done an excellent work with the songs and background score. He definitely has a future. Cinematography is not so special.
The movie makes you laugh now and then. So its worth a watch. Just felt the movie could have been a little shorter, which would have made it fast moving.
And people who wanna see vijay jump across many kilometres or any such mass stunts, please dont go the movie, hurt yourself and give bad comments.
Marina - typical of life of child workers at the beach and how they wish to change it. If you visit the beach again after watching this movie, your view will surely be different and you will notice these small boys more.

Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi Music Review

Thaman with a good album again.. 5 numbers with 4 different genres.
Ananda Jaladosham
Hero Sidharth voices for the song. Director Balaji has himself written the lines, which says what love is and what lovers do.Peppy, with interesting sounds. But doesnt appeal the listener much. I will say the worst song of the album
Azhaippaya
Now this song is what i call an Audio treat.. 2 versions. A male solo with Karthick and a duet by karthick and harini. Karthick, as usual, with his soft and smooth voice carries the song to the peak. Madan Karky is the lyricist. Awesome lyrics. A boy waiting for a call from his crush. The lines describe the typical actions of what one does when he is in love. A good melody from Thaman which will haunt my playlist for long. And the violin part in between - unexpected!!
Parvathi Parvathi
The first thing that comes to my mind on hearing this song is MSV's "Vishwanathan! Velai Vendum!" And this a kind of retro number for a 'my girl ditched me' situation.. Different attempt. Sidharth's voice is cool in this song.
Thavarugal Unargirom
Now this is a typical Thaman song. Thaman's autotuned voice gets featured in here. Good orchestration. But i do get the feel of a christian carol song, when i hear with my eyes closed. Could have been better.

In total, Karky- superb work and awesome lines
Thaman - Good, but we do expect more from you..
Hope the movie will be good too.. Bad that i will have to watch it alone :( :P
